This is a simplified walk-through of carefully thought-out tasks to be executed.  They are sequential (water-fall model) and extremely crucial to the success of your application. The underlined phrase(s) are links to the required service.

Step 1. Create a formal Gmail Address reflecting your 3 Names and Develop your most Detailed  CV

A well-defined email address makes follow-up, by third parties, very easy. Use it, and only it, for all the steps that follow. e.g. an Admission Letter sent to AnotherPhdApplicant@gmail.com for Another PhD Applicant attracts no questions.

Step 2. Visit Funded PhDs and choose 3 to 5 programs; Visit the University/ College/ School Website too

For the greatest chance of success in your studies and satisfaction in your career, you must choose what you really like, understand and are good at. It is your life! This also informs you on requirements, deadlines and funding levels.

Step 3. Birth Certificate and Kenyan Passport

You've become a Global Citizen, your National ID is no longer adequate. Apply for your Birth Certificate and "Kenyan Passport". Consistency of birth date and names in all identity and academic documents is very important.

Step 4 Register for; Revise for; and Take the appropriate Standard Exam. GRE or GMAT or/and TOEFL

Standard exams help in evaluating your Academic Potential in a global arena. It is the same exam the world over. These exams are similar to KCSE Math and English. You need to pass very well; I have total confidence in Kenyans.

Step 5. Send Kenyan Academic Credentials to a NACES Member for Equivalence Evaluation

USA uses GPA Numbers (0 - 4) instead of Letter Grades (F - A) on Transcripts for academic achievement. Kenyan credentials must therefore be converted to GPA equivalents by authorized bodies in USA.

Step 6. At the Respective Program Website;  Create an Account; and Start the Application Process

Output from Steps 1 - 5: Personal Information; Education Background and Transcripts; Employment Information; Honors and Awards; Contacts of Referees;  and Standardized Test Scores; will be required together with a Statement of Purpose.

Step 7. The Form I-20; SEVIS Fee; and USA F1 Student VISA

Once admitted, the University will send you the Admission Letter; Fellowship or Graduate Assistantship Letter; and the Form I-20. You'll need to pay the SEVIS Fee, then apply for the F1 Student VISA at the USA Embassy.

Step 8. Travel to USA and Settling In

A place to stay must be worked out; You'll need a One-Way Air Ticket. Please give me the honor to meet my familiar ugly smiling face at any airport in USA! You'll Register; You'll get Social Security; You'll learn Bills, Bills; and You'll Tour USA.

Step 9. For Approximately 20 Course Units in 60 Credit Hours; you will get your Ph.D.

Americans universities teach so well. Every professor is committed to your success. A Kenyan would never fail in any University Studies  in USA. The duration of the program largely depends on you. 3 -5 yrs, its your performance to decide!

Step 10. The Kenya PhD Program Will be There Every Step of The Way!!!

This we promise - Your journey to self-actualization is of the greatest importance to Kenya and to many generations to come. We therefore make a commitment to walk with you and guide you and support you to the Graduation Court!!
